Welcome to our farm in northern Jämtland. Karin, Jens and Freja live here together with our animals. At the farm, we arrange courses in various art disciplines, rent out short-term accommodation and artist residencies, as well as breed SWB horses on a small scale.
A traditional family farm since 1560
Freskgården is a Jämtland gem in the small village of Sikås, 70 kilometers north of Östersund. The farm has a beautiful location with a view of both Storån and Hotagsfjällen. The fresco farm is considered one of the earliest farms built in Sikås and it is mentioned for the first time in writing in 1560. The farm has been in Karin's family since time immemorial and its ownership has been documented since 1664. In the dining room hangs a diploma for preservation of the family farm issued 1930 where the farm's owner and relatives are listed, at the time of writing it has gone to Karin's family for 360 years, which makes little Freja the 17th generation on the farm. The farm today consists of four properties, woodland and arable land.

We rent accommodation located on, or in close proximity to, our farm. Most of our guests are artists, as a workplace is included in our studio when you are a guest with us. The studio is shared with other guests, but there are desks in all our rooms if you want to work more privately. Karin uses the studio as her daily workplace and is available during the day if you have any questions. Easels and certain materials are available to borrow. Many of our guests usually send their materials by post before their stay, in order to avoid large and unwieldy luggage during the trip. The nearest city is Östersund, there is both a train station and an airport, we are happy to pick you up if you need a transfer to Sikås.
We run a stud farm where we breed SWB gaited horses of the highest quality. Our breeding mares are carefully selected and our goal is to breed durable, talented, mobile dressage horses with a good temperament.

Interested in renting our premises for your own courses or events?
We rent out both the country house and the cultural center at a package price of SEK 3,500/day. Then you get access to 10 bedrooms (sleeps approx. 20), studio/gathering room with space for up to 30 people, 5 bathrooms, 3 fully equipped kitchens. We are available during your event and will help you if any problems arise. We can also help you arrange meals and activities.
